O Holy Apostle Philip, Intercede with the merciful God
That He may grant our souls forgiveness of sins.
Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory for ever! + Slava Isusu Christu! Slava i vo viki
Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Today’s Gospel speaks of a miraculous catch of fish. To better situate the reading we should look at the preceding verses and then we would see that in Christ enters the boat in order to get away from the crowd. Today’s miracle is at the beginning of St Peter’s vocation and has a parallel at another beginning of his mission. This episode in a way is repeated after the resurrection when Peter who denied Christ, is made the head of the Apostolic College. There is the same miraculous catch. A catch which is symbolic of the Church.
This Gospel pericope was very dear to Pope John Paul II who so often spoke of the command ‘Caste in to the deep.’
It is reassuring that the work of saving souls goes on to the end of time and that despite the faults of the fisherman still the nets are filled for it is truly the Lord at work.
This pericope also speaks to us of the confidence that we should have as we endeavor to spread the seeds of the Kingdom.
The Epistle reading reminds us that we should be generous because “God loveth a cheerful giver,” and he is the Generous One who deigns to permit us to be part of His Work.
Fr Christopher: This past week: I have returned from San Luis Obispo with a CA driver’s license and a cat. Things went well although there are a few glitches still with the vehicle… This coming week will see more Divine Liturgies. I want to find a ‘default’ setting for the celebration of Divine Liturgies. If you have feedback then please get to me with your ideas so that Liturgy will be available at times at which more of the faithful can assist.
Mystery of First Confession: If you have a child ready to make his or her first confession please see me and I will start by instructing those who need it. This shouldn’t take too long, about 5 weeks and after that I hope that we will be able to relaunch Catechism for the children after Sunday Liturgies. Parents are invited to sit in on the classes, so as to be able to help their children with the homework. Also as part of ‘Safe Environement’ there will be another adult present.
Golden Jubilee Celebrations: Meeting after Divine Liturgy this Sunday.
‘Court of the Gentiles’: As mentioned we will begin with a rapid fire of questions after our brunch in which Fr Christopher will answer questions you may have about the Liturgy, the Parish and upcoming events.
Mr Jeff Lowe: the latest news is that he is recovering from his fight with pneumonia and Covid. Thank you all for your prayers.
