St. Jerome  

The rich man, in purple splendor, is not accused of being greedy or of carrying off the property of another, or of committing adultery, or, in fact, of any wrongdoing. The evil alone of which he is guilty is pride. Most wretched of men, you see a member of your own body lying there outside at your gate, and have you no compassion? If the laws of God mean nothing to you, at least take pity on your own situation and be in fear, for perhaps you might become like him. Give what you waste to your own member. I am not telling you to throw away your wealth. What you throw out, the crumbs from your table, offer as alms. …Lazarus was lying at the gate in order to draw attention to the cruelty paid to his body and to prevent the rich man from saying,”! did not notice him. He was in a corner. I could not see him. No one announced him to me.” He lay at the gate. You saw him every time you went out and every time you came in. When your crowds of servants and clients were attending you, he lay there full of ulcers.

• Dear Parishioners and Friends, during our gatherings, please follow all health and safety precautions issued by civil authorities. Use the space to allow distance between households, follow proper way of receiving Holy Communion. Per parish guidelines, consider your and others’ safety when coming to church, if you feel sick, you can choose to follow Sunday liturgy online, or pray the Typika. When in doubt, consult your decision with your pastor/confessor. During this time, Bishop John granted dispensation to the faithful from attending Sunday services. Please know that you and your intentions are remembered on the altar at St. Philip’s. For confession and other needs, please contact Fr. Francis directly and make an appointment.  
• Last Sunday, 54 souls came to pray at St. Philip’s. We received donations in tithes $ (no tithes this week); donations $, candles $, Amazon Smile donation $, Building Fund $. Clergy Medical Ins. Collection $. Thank you for your generosity, may God bless you always.

• Daylight Savings time change occurs on November 1. Remember to move your clocks back and enjoy the extra sleep.  
• Clergy Medical Special Collection. This annual collection helps our bishop to pay extra cost for priests’ medical insurance. Each parish contributes monthly to this expense, but not the full amount needed. Once a year, the Eparchy seeks to collect extra funds to help cover the cost of priest insurance. Thank you for your generous participation.  
• If you cannot come to church for safety, health or other reasons, sanctify your Sunday at home. Join live streaming services (http://liveliturgy.com/) or pray the Typika service. Put on your Sunday clothes, silence your phone, set up your computer in your prayer corner, light a candle, open your prayer book, and join the praying church. Pray a prayer of spiritual communion. May the Lord visit you with many graces.

• Come and See Retreat. The Byzantine Catholic Seminary of Saints Cyril and Methodius is pleased to host the “Come and See” Weekend of Discovery on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, 2020. This year’s retreat will be given virtually online. Invited to register for this online retreat are men, ages 18 to 35, single or married, who may be considering a vocation to the priesthood in the Byzantine Catholic Church. • What is “Atrium?” Also called “Catechesis of Good Shepherd,” Atrium uses Maria Montessori age appropriate hands-on approach to catechizing children. At. St. Philip’s, we have a classroom set up for the little ones to touch, see and explore what they see and hear at church. If you would like to join us with your little student or to help with other little students, ask Fr. Francis for more information. Classes will resume when the quarantine ends.

Fridays in general are days of fasting and penance, we observe abstinence from meat foods. Let us remember one another as we offer our sacrifices to God.
